2019 Andover Alumni Award of Distinction
On Friday, October 25, 2019, four individuals received the 2019 Andover Alumni Award of Distinction. In addition to ASM, the recipients met with students and participated in classes. First presented in 2012, the annual award honors individual members of the alumni body for making “significant positive impact on their communities, society, or the world.
Samantha Appleton ’93 - Photojournalist, concentrating on the social and political consequences of conflict and neglect. Appleton worked for five years as the White House Photographer for President Barack Obama, and has also done projects across the world, from Iraq to Africa to Maine.
Sarah Chayes ’80 - Senior associate in the Democracy and Rule of Law Program and the South Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment. Formerly special adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. International affairs journalist.
Guy Nordensen ’73 - Structural engineer and professor of architecture and structural engineering at Princeton University. Structural engineer for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Commissioner of the NYC Art Commission (2006), Recipient of the 1st American Academy of Arts & Letters Award in Architecture (2003).
William Nordhaus ’59, P’85, ’87, ’91 – 2018 Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Sciences.
Kevin Olusola ’06 (Grammy award-winning, American musician, beatboxer, cellist, rapper, record producer, singer, and songwriter) also received the award, but and will accept in person later in the academic year.
