Veterans Day 2015
More than 100 guests attended the sixth annual Veterans Day dinner, which included remarks from Andover and the Military Executive Committee Chair and Lt. Col. Charles Dean ’79, USA (Ret) and Capt. James Donnelly ’82, USN. Students from the Adopt-A-Platoon community engagement program pinned each veteran with a ceremonial Andover Veteran lapel pin, and Lt. Cmdr. Laurie Coffey ’95, USN, introduced guest speaker Adm. Charles S. “Steve” Abbot ’62, USN (Ret).
Artist Chas Fagan ’84 attended the dinner and unveiled his portrait of Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Thomas J. Hudner ’43, USN (Ret), who was also in attendance. The portrait will be hung aboard the USS Thomas Hudner, a naval destroyer under construction in Bath, Maine.
Other PA tributes included scrolling the names of faculty and staff veterans on the video screens in Paresky Commons, a card-signing event for two PA alums currently enrolled in U.S. service academies, and an enormous red, white, and blue cupcake flag.
